Warning Signs of Stroke

Everyone should be aware of the fact that time is of critical importance once a stroke has occured. Knowing the warning signs could enable you to save your life or the life of a loved one. If warning signs are present, call 911 immediately for help. Remember that time is critical. Typical warning signs of a stroke include sudden changes from a normal state to one of the following conditions:

* Numbness or weakness on one side of the body (a leg, an arm or the face)
* Trouble seeing, speaking or understanding
* Confusion or severe headache
* Feeling dizzy or having difficulty walking

Many of the risk factors that contribute to stroke are controllable. Taking control of the following risk factors will enhance cardiovascular health and help add years to your life:

* Smoking
* Being over weight or obese
* Having high cholesterol
* Having high blood pressure
* Being inactive

All of these risk factors can be mitigated with a balanced wellness plan focusing on proper diet, exercise and healthy lifestyle habits.
